I installed the Gascolator in the center of the exit air ramp area with clearance between the dual tail pipes. I mounted it high enough to where, when removing the lower bowl, there is enough clearance for the exit air ramp. But this required a bracket system and an extended pipe to the drain valve. This setup works well for the location but will require safety wiring of the brass union assembly to the lower Gacolator bracket just in case it wants to vibrate loose in flight.
To remove the lower bowl, I'll simply snip the safety wire, unthread the pipe extension, and voila!, the bowl will drop down for access to the filter. Once a year at annual condition inspection seems reasonable, but it could occur a but more frequently in the early break-in period.
